Reina (7): A quiet first half for the Spaniard was followed by a second half which saw him forced into multiple saves as Crotone began to apply some intense pressure.
Maggio (7): A man who went quiet for a number of years has suddenly become one of the squad’s most reliable players, battling the right flank with his years of experience and yet still maintaining a youthful ferocity and pace.
Albiol (7.5): Composed and elegant in almost everything he did, yet brutal when absolutely necessary. It was an expectedly excellent performance from the central defenders, except for a slight lapse in concentration early in the second half.
Koulibaly (8): Just another game for the enormous central defender who seems to grow in confidence with each passing game, improving his passing game immensely whilst also supplying some spectacularly crunching tackles.
Hysaj (6.5): Thrown onto the left flank after a series of unfortunate circumstances, Hysaj put in a defensively solid performance however the offensive play is far behind that which Ghoulam provided before his injury. His weakness on the left foot only becomes more apparent when he’s called to play any sort of smart ball forward.
Jorginho (6.5): Looked rather sloppy at times, picking up an unnecessary yellow yet again. However it is apparent that his intricate passes forward are less effective against teams who play overwhelmingly defensive football. In defence he was expectedly solid, playing a big part in the highly possessive performance.
Allan (7.5): Continued the excellent form he displayed in the last game, animalistic ferocity combining with some excellent dribbling and a keen eye for passing which has become more clinical as time goes on.
Hamsik (7.5): Another day, another goal, it hasn’t been often in recent memory that Il Capitano has been on such an exciting scoring streak, banging away another fine goal and the match winner, after finding an inch of space in a very tight Crotone defence. A true captain’s display.
Insigne (7): Unlucky not to score, a cheeky curler bouncing off the crossbar and a host of other shots denied by an in-form Cordaz.
Mertens (6.5): Unable to score yet again, it is clearly difficult for the mighty Mertens to even get a shot away with two or more defenders on his back at all times. However his ability to play quick, intricate passes as well as intelligently drag defenders, evident in his dragging three defenders off Hamsik’s position and allowing him another goal.
Callejon (7): Cool, calm and collected, the Spaniard provided some extra coverage on the right flank in the absence of Hysaj and played rather deep, collecting loose balls and distributing them back up the field. Another who was unfortunate not to bag a goal, with Cordaz denying his time and time again from close range.
Zielinski (7): Some tricky skills and scintillating footwork visibly frustrated the Crotone defence, drawing a number of fouls and holding out for a dirty victory.
Diawara (N/A): Missed watching this lad play, just such a joy to watch! Tight dribbling and a near perfect vision allowed him to control the game in the dying stages, even came close to scoring an amazing first goal for the club.
Rog (N/A): Brought on to finish the game off with amazing energy, the little Croatian being another who provides a rather diverse element to the game with his strength and blend of ferocity and cheeky dribbling.
