Napoli v Sampdoria Match Preview

Napoli jump back into Serie A action this Saturday with a match against Sampdoria. The Partenopei will play host to the side from Genova in what should be a good match.

However, with “Sarrismo” seeming to be back in full swing (knock on wood), Napoli should be three morepoints to the good come the final whistle.

First, let’s take a look at the visitors. Sampdoria are currently enjoying their most successful season so far since returning to Serie A in 2012, as they currently sit sixth in the table. In contrast to their league position, Sampdoria are winless in their last four league matches. Also, after that heartbreaking loss to Sassuolo at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris they’ll be looking to do something they haven’t done since 1998, win in Naples.

Moving on to the hosts, players and fans alike are in good spirits after two wins in a row. The first being an away win against Torino (maybe not the side from Turin we were hoping for but hey, we’ll see them in April), a game in which Marek Hamšík finally equalled Maradona’s record.

The second being a win against Udinese in the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia, with Lorenzo Insigne scoring the game winner in his return from injury. Both were great victories that helped remind the team, Hamšík especially, of what they’re capable of.

Also, this is a match that will see Ivan Strinic and Duvan Zapata take the field against Napoli for the first time since leaving for Sampdoria. However, Zapata is currently questionable to play as he’s nursing an injury, so the goal scoring duties will be left to another former Napoli player, Fabio Quagliarella. With an expected crowd of over 40,000, it should be a warm welcome for our three former players.

So, with Sampdoria faltering as of late and Napoli looking back to normal it should be a comfortable win for our boys in blue. Not only that, this could very well be the game where Hamšík finally becomes top goal scorer for Napoli.

Score Prediction: Napoli 2-0 Sampdoria, with goals coming from Insigne and Hamšík.
